Chicago Musical!

The first musical I've ever gone to go watch, apart from "Annie" for some field trip in elementary school and a few musicals at my high school. It was at the Pantages theatre
, which was nothing short of absolutely beautiful. It was so pretty inside, they didn't let us take pictures :)

I went with about 6 or so other people on my floor on Sunday night, with the thought of three essays due Tuesday packed away neatly in the back of my head. Well, it was a waste of time to pack them away so neatly-- they were aaaaaaaaaallllllllllll blown away anyway along with the rest of me! :) :) :) :)

Chicago, the movie, is one of my favorite films, along with another musical Moulin Rouge, but watching the musical live was something completely different! The songs were the same as those in the movie (with a lot of them arranged differently), but they had a few more songs that the movie left out.

As big as an ass as I feel saying this, I did like the movie more. Well I mean it was Renée Zellweger-- not many people can play the part of Roxie Hart and not be infuriating at one point, so thank god Renée Zellweger isn't many people, not to mention Catherine Zeta-Jones is far from many people too. :)

All in all, totally worth $40

+/- Songs from the Film

I was only gonna embed one or two songs when I realized I couldn't pick.

Movie: Seven Pounds

So I finally watched what it was everybody called, "a really good movie"

Seven pounds was about a guy who gets in an accident (caused entirely by him), kills seven people, and spends 7 days saving 7 worthy people by sacrificing himself. A lot of people said they cried, but I've seen plenty more movies that almost made me cry, and this isn't one of them. Nonetheless, it was a good movie.

The concept was fun, and you have to put together the pieces of the puzzle. It's more enjoyable the second time around (and I watched it twice in two days because Kiye and Asuka missed it the first time), because you notice all the little details and they actually make sense this time. It's also more enjoyable if you watch it with a couple other people because hypotheses may differ and you'll notice different details!

Definitely worth a watch, though maybe not so much as three times in three days!

Movie: Pulp Fiction

So I finally watched the movie Pulp Fiction which is about 15 years old. Damn. It was just as good as everybody said it was.

The movie was broken up into segments, so there was some of that putting together in your head involved, nothing too confusing like Memento though (which was also an excellent movie by the way). I've seen the cover for this movie multiple times, but it took me til actually watching the movie to notice it was Uma Thurman. She's only in it for a little while there's not really a main character. The movie was funny as hell, same director as Kill Bill so kind of that exaggerated-violent-I-can't-believe-he-just-shot-him-in-the-head-in-the-car-type humor. That was fucking unexpected I spilled some coffee on my table.

Great movie, watch it now if you haven't already.

Movie: Once

The movie Once was fucking brilliant. And I say that with a British accent (or was it Italian?), fucking brilliant.

The movie was about a guy who plays a guitar (and sings remarkably well) meeting a girl who plays the piano (whom also happens to sing remarkably well). They record songs together with a couple other random people, and two people I think have a name the entire movie("Timmy the drummer" and the baby).

Really, it was really good.

Movie: The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

Coincidentally I've been watching a few Holocaust films lately. Actually, just this one and Valkyrie, but still.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is based off of the book by John Boyne and is about the Holocaust seen through the eyes of an eight-year-old German boy. He moves into a new house near the concentration camps because his dad is a soldier and needs to get "work done," and makes friends with a Jewish kid at the camp while he's out exploring. The family gets a tutor to teach them about why the things that are happening are happening, and the protagonist is torn between what the adults tell him about the Jews and what he sees.

The movie was excellent. It's a really, really sad story and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody unprepared to cry. For me, reading about the Holocaust and the concentration camps in text books did have an impact, but that was it. I read it that one time and had the tests on it; not like I went home and cried myself to sleep. Sure it made me sick, but textbooks make you look at these things critically, and so all I thought was Hitler did look quite appealing to the Germans at the time given their shitty situation, and having someone to blame it on didn't sound bad either. Taking the field trips to the Holocaust Museum (I don't know if it was called that) had a bit more impact, we had a lot more pictures and it was more interactive. Our school had a Holocaust survivor speaker about twice, and those just scared the shit out of me. Gah, we read a book too, can't remember the title.

This movie was really something though, it caught my attention from the title (isn't that such a cool title?). They started off the movie with a quote I thought was interesting so I'm gonna go ahead and post it here.

Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows.

Isn't that so true? God, what a cool quote. I know everything I did as a child had no reasoning behind it whatsoever. I don't know who the hell you are John, but great job on that! :)

Oh yes, the movie. Watch it.

Movie: Fired Up

Another one of the four films I watched the other day. Fired Up. F U. Lol.

Fired Up is a comedy movie about two football players deciding to become cheerleaders so that they can go to cheerleading camp where there are 300 girls from other schools. During their stay they hook up with countless girls, and of course end up getting serious about that one and really getting into the whole cheerleading thing. It was a funny movie! Wha- is that Wayne Jarvis, the "professional" lawyer from Arrested Development!? Watch it if you like that stuff, don't watch it if you don't, blah-blah-blah.

The one thing I got out of this movie was: "Panthers, out!" *Knock knock* HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Again, not your thing? Don't watch it-blah-blah-blah.

Movie: Bride Wars

Holy shit I watched a lot of movies today. Four movies and two stand up comedies in one day, I think that might be a record for me.

I woke up this morning and wanted to watch a movie, but nothing really too serious or heavy, something more stupid and funny. This movie was perfect in that sense. The thing I liked about Bride Wars was that the movie was everything I thought it was going to be, and probably what everybody that watched the trailer expected it to be. It wasn't a great movie, it was just a movie; it entertained me and made me laugh a few times like a romantic comedy movie should.

The film is about two girls that are best friends and hold the same image of their ideal weddings. They get engaged at the same time and find out they're getting married on the same day at the same time, same place, and get in a huge fight over who will change the date. They sabotage each other and each tries to ruin the other's wedding, but of course in the end they end up being best friends again.

And I guess that's all I have to say about the movie, really.

Movie: Push

It's been a while since the last time I've seen a movie with Dakota Fanning in it. Damn, of course, but damn she's grown up. Do you remember her back in I Am Sam? Nah, I don't really either.

The movie Push was excellent. My opinion might be slightly biased due to the fact that I watched The Day the Earth Stood Still a day before I did this one, but I loved it. It was about people with special powers (i.e. "watchers" can see the future "movers" can move objects "pushers" can push their memories and thoughts into somebody else) and an agency going after them. The protagonists try to stop this by devising a mind-blowing plan and allying with the other psychics spread throughout Hong Kong. The agency after them is called "Division" and are trying to get together these psychics to make an army, and perform experiments on them also which usually ends up killing them. The protagonists keep trying to stay one step ahead of them, but the agency also has psychics on their side. Their watcher sees something and moves accordingly, and as the other watcher sees the future change they move differently also. It's like one long, complicated, exciting game of chess.
By the way, Dakota Fanning is a watcher! :)

Love shit like this, definitely worth a watch.

Movie: Taken

Every single person I've talked to so far to about this movie has said it was really good, so I watched it with my brother yesterday. We saw the trailer on youtube right before we decided to watch it, and damn was that a good trailer. I put it in the collapse so go see for yourself. He has such a cool voice.

The movie was about the guy's daughter getting kidnapped on her vacation to Paris and him flying there and looking for her, all the while killing and torturing people on the way. It's very good, kept me interested the whole time anyway. It's also not too gory for those of you who are like me and twitches every time something too hurtful happens. I twitched like twice.

Movie: Up

Another movie we watched the same day we saw Drag Me To Hell. Let me just say, man am I glad we watched this movie second because I felt really different from the way I did after watching DMTH. I am pretty sure we were the only teenagers in the theater, the rest were parents and their children either too old or too young to appreciate the art of Pixar. Then again, what the hell do I know? Probably no one in that movie theater fully gave Up the attention it deserved (mainly because the little creatures kids won't stop giggling and yelling during the film), but fear not, I plan to abuse it like KFC's chickens when out on DVD. Wait, Blu-ray is in right now? Fuck my HD-DVD Playing piece of shit. Just kidding, never got oneeeee!

Oh of course the movie was good, we all knew it was gonna be good the moment we saw one of the most teasing trailers I've ever seen.

God, it must have been a bitch rendering all those shiny, slightly reflective balloons...

Movie: Drag Me To Hell

I went to go watch Drag Me To Hell with Donna yesterday, and I must say it was exactly what I expected and exactly what I unexpected at the same time.

I'm pretty sure some of the scenes were meant to be comical, because I laughed a good number of times. I also screamed on a handful of occasions so I would place it somewhere between horror and comedy. Whatever that is.

It was like...

Ahhh

AAAHHHHHH

It's always surprised me

It's always surprised me how they come up with the game before the movie. Wall-E did that too, weird. Also, my friend claims this movie Up by Pixar Animation and Disney to be her favorite movie, and it hasn't even come out yet. Well actually she might not be too far off it looks fucking amazing.

Also, for anybody interested, there's a Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, and PC version of it out too.

Again, also for anybody who cares, I'm not quite sure as to how it's celebrated, but happy Geek Pride Day and happy Memorial Day! :)

Movie: Bee Movie

Kind of really late, but I watched Bee Movie today. I am taking full advantage of my Memorial Day weekend. It's weird, I never heard anything about this movie. Nothing good, nothing bad, nothing! Weird!

To be honest, the movie was kind of odd. The little jokes in there was more of a if you get it it's funny if you don't it's not, which isn't a bad thing or anything but. Sometimes I lost track of the storyline, like when they're flying the plane and it's moving like an insect. It was so weird. So weird in fact that that scene my favorite part of the entire movie. God I am using that word too much. I really like that in the beginning of the movie everything is moving so fast, because they're bees and they don't live long (i.e. they go to elementary school 3 days, middle school 3 days, college 3 days, graduating class of 9:15), but they didn't really stick to it throughout the movie. It was funny though, made me laugh a gooood number of times.

The 3D in it was amazing. If I had better vocabulary, I'd use a different word, but I don't know how anyone can keep from dropping their jaws the entire movie. Damn, Dreamworks. Good job. The buildings looked awesome, the bee hive was mind-blowing, the animation was excellent, I don't know what to say, holy fuck that looks cool.

The voice acting. Well, how can you say no to Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellweger? Renee Zellweger has such a nice voice.

If you haven't watched Bee Movie yet and haven't heard anything about it, take it from me, watch it! It's not a waste of time in the least :)

By the way, the old bee talking in the beginning of the trailer gets swapped with a girl bee on the movie. Lol.

Movie: Marley & Me

I can't remember the last time I watched a dog movie. I usually don't like watching them much, partly because it always ends with the dog dying or the storyline is too good to be true. In other words, the dog not dying in the movie is a story too good to be true. Just kidding, Air Bud wasn't even that bad.

I watched this movie today and it just gave me that feeling you get after you watch a movie. It was about this couple that get a dog and then have kids, switch jobs, quit jobs, move, fight, cry, make up, make out, and all that jazz. I think what I liked about it was that the entire story wasn't just about the dog like it was meant solely for dog-lovers to watch or something.

It made me never want to have a dog. Ever. Or kids for that matter.

But, at the same time I can see why people would want kids and a dog after that movie. I'm not gonna rate it or anything but it's worth a watch.

The Root of Three

Harold and Kumar 2 Escape from Guantanamo Bay was freaking hilarious.
And I really liked the poem Kumar wrote in it.
+/- Poem

The Root of Three

I fear that I will always be
A lonely number like root three

A three is all that’s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath a vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nine

For nine could thwart this evil trick,
with just some quick arithmetic

I know I’ll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationality

When hark, just what is this I see?
Another square root of a three

Has quietly come waltzing by,
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
Rejoicing as an integer

We break free from our mortal bonds
And with a wave of magic wands

Our square root signs become unglued
And love for me has been renewed
